Plymouth Country Club
On your way to the beaches of Dare County, stop for a quick round of golf at Plymouth Country Club, in Plymouth, NC. This Little Piece of Golf Heaven was created by three legends of golf course design. William S. Flynn, designed the course in 1937. Ellis Maples and Dick Wilson supervised the construction of the course and it is said they tweaked Flynn's design slightly.
Philadelphia golfers who ...have played at Plymouth C.C. say it is like playing a home course because Flynn designed many of the courses in that area. Golf Digest put William Flynn on their "Top Ten Golf Course Designers" list. Flynn assisted with the design and construction of Merion Golf Club, the host of the 2013 U S Open. He is best known for his reconstruction of Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in 1931. Shinnecock Hills has hosted the U S Open three times and will host the Open again in 2018. Plymouth C.C. is an old school golf course. The fairways are lined with many old oak trees and tall pine trees. Dogwoods are scattered around the course. Plymouth C.C. is a nine-hole course which is playable but challenging. It is simplistic but it does not give up much. It is not tricked up, you can see where you are going but you are not going to eat it up. If you can play well at Plymouth you can play anywhere.
